Chemical peel refers to the technique of improving the appearance of the facial skin by means of special chemical solutions.
These solutions gradually remove the outermost layer of the skin, which is affected by wear and tear, and shows undesirable blemishes, wrinkles, or ugly pigmentation. The older skin, peeled off by the solutions, is replaced by naturally growing, younger, and smoother skin.
How does Essence Superficial Peel work?
The active ingredient in this peel is Salicylic Acid – but how does it work to give you clearer skin?
Salicylic Acid is an oil-soluble ingredient, which means it will get deep into your pores, clean them out and improve your overall complexion.
This peel is ideal for anyone that wants to reduce sun damage, blemishes, pigmentation and fine lines. It is designed to make your skin tighter, brighter and smoother after just one treatment.
This peel is also great for people who are prone to breakouts. Every spot starts with a comedone (blackhead). This peel is so effective, especially at treating acne, because it tackles the problem at its origin. By starving the acne of its fuel, this peel removes comedones, deep-cleanses pores and provides an anti-bacterial action.
What areas of my body can be treated?
This skin peel treats the face only.
What happens during the treatment?
Each Essence Superficial Peel treatment lasts approximately 20 minutes.
Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared with a medicated solution that removes oil from the skin followed by followed by the first layer of peel solution.
There is a mild-moderate feeling of heat and tingling for about 30-60 seconds after the peel solution is applied. It does pass and is not painful at all. A second layer of the peel solution is then applied and left on your skin for a few minutes.
When the few minutes are up, a neutralising solution is applied. A high factor sun block is applied to your skin before you leave.
Immediately after your treatment, you should notice that your skin looks younger, smoother and tighter. These results will continue to improve for the next 7 to 10 days, after which your skin should be completely healed again. You should notice an improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun spots, and pore size. You will also see that the texture and tone of your skin is improved.
Though just one treatment yields noticeable results, a series of 4-6 treatments will give your skin the best results possible.
Understanding post peel care
After your treatment you will need to care for your skin to maximise and maintain results. The single most important thing to remember after any chemical peel is to wear a sun protection (SPF 30/50) at all times.
Avoiding direct sun exposure is advised, as too much exposure may cause improper healing and in some cases may reverse the benefits of the peel.
Treat the skin gently. Do not exfoliate, even though you may experience mildly dry, red or flaking skin for a few days or more after your peel. Do not pick at peeling skin. The dead skin will naturally slough off. Also avoid alpha- and beta- hydroxyl acid products, retinol and facial products containing fragrance for 3 days after the peel.
The process of maintaining more youthful looking skin
Although vibrant and rejuvenated skin will appear with your first application, a series of 4-6 peels may be required to achieve your ultimate skin reconditioning goals.
Through careful analysis our cosmetic doctor doctor will determine the number of peels necessary to give you the desired results. In most cases, 1-3 Essence Superficial Peel treatments will achieve dramatic results in many skin conditions. Each peel can be performed in two to three week intervals until you have reached your ultimate goals.
What is the downtime?
There is hardly any downtime.
Your skin feels a little tight and some small areas of more sensitive skin can become a little red for up to a day. If you do experience localised reddening then this patch of skin will become a little flaky for a day or so, but nothing a good moisturiser and a little foundation will not sort out.
The treatment isn’t recommended to be done before going away on a sunny holiday. Exfoliating the top layer of skin exposes the baby-young epidermis below, leaving skin more photo-sensitive and prone to burning and sun damage.
What results can I expect?
After a week, your skin will appear clearer, smoother, brighter and more radiant. Congestion will be reduced and blackheads will reduce too.
What can I expect from my consultation and will I have the treatment the same day?
You are required to have a face-to-face consultation prior to having this treatment.
In the consultation Dr Bong will examine your face in general, focussing on the texture and quality of your skin. Dr Bong will then offer you a treatment plan and quote you a price. He will also discuss in detail the advantages and limitations of this treatment and the alternatives. It depends on how long it takes to conclude the consultation, there may not be enough time for you to have the treatment on the same visit.
However, if you are travelling from a distance, please do let us know in advance so we can try to accommodate your circumstances. This is not a guarantee but we will do our utmost to accommodate you.
How much does this treatment cost?
£120 per treatment
£360 for a course of 4 (i.e. ‘buy 3 get 1 free’).
If I would like to receive more information on this treatment, shall I just call your reception and make an appointment?
Yes, absolutely. You will need a consultation with Dr Bong and this is completely free of charge. During the consultation, Dr Bong will discuss in further detail with you what the procedure will entail, design a bespoke treatment approach and address any concerns that you have.
After the consultation – and providing you decide to have the treatment – you will be offered another appointment.

What is your booking and cancellation policy?
When we book an appointment for you, we commit that time and our resources to your treatment. This means that, if anyone else wants to come at the same time, we will be unable to see them and will have to offer them an alternative time. If you do not then attend that appointment and either do not tell us in advance or give insufficient notice, we are unable to allocate the time to someone else; however, we still have overheads and staff salaries to pay during the unproductive time.
Deposits and your credit/debit card details
Unlike other clinics, we do not take any advance deposit or booking fee. This deposit will be redeemed against your Ultrasound Facial treatment.
When booking your appointment, you will be asked to provide us your credit/debit card details. This is your confirmation of your commitment to attend your appointment. Please rest assured that no money will be taken from your card and your details will be securely stored but encrypted for your own privacy. To cancel or reschedule your appointment
We make appointments with the expectation that you will attend at the agreed date & time to undergo your treatment; if you change your mind or work/other commitments prevent you from attending, we ask you to give us a minimum of 48 hours’ notice (excluding Sunday) so that we can reallocate your appointment slot to another customer.
Non-attendance (including late cancellation)
If you do not attend your appointment, or cancel later than the deadlines shown above, we reserve the right to make a charge as follows:
1. Ultrasound Facial: you will forfeit the £50 deposit
2. All other appointments (including consultation): £50 will be charged to your credit/debit card
Please note that, although we normally send text message reminders two days before appointments are due, the successful delivery of these relies on our text provider, your mobile network provider and your phone and cannot therefore be guaranteed.
Therefore, you should not rely on our text messages as the sole reminder of your appointment as we will not be responsible for any appointments missed as a result of non-delivery of the text message reminder, regardless of the reasons for its failure.
