JAWLINE SLIMMING WITH BOTOX

Achieve Oval or Heart-shaped Face

Overly square jawline is usually the result of overdeveloped masseter muscles: the muscles that are attached at the angle of your jaw and control your chewing. If you tense them a great deal – or grind your teeth at all – they become more pronounced and produce that strong, masculine jawline.

Attractive Oval-Shaped Face

Changing the shape of the face from square to a more attractive oval shape can add a more gentle graceful appearance.

Jawline slimming injection with Botox® selectively weakens the masseter muscles over time, leading to an overall reduction in the size of this muscle. This treatment allows for changing the shape of the face without a scalpel, pain, swelling and zero downtime.

Bruxism

Many men and women suffer for years clenching or grinding their teeth, it is an involuntary movement which we cannot control. 70% of grinding and clenching happens at night when we sleep (ask your partner / spouse ), or while we drive the car or watch TV. We do not realise it. This is called Bruxism. The majority of Bruxism patients have no awareness of it.

This causes an hypertrophic growth of the masseter muscles resulting in a wider and overly square jawline.

Jawline slimming injection FAQ

What is Jawline slimming Injection?

How does jawline slimming injection vary from jaw reduction surgery?

Jawline slimming injection with Botox® can create a natural, subtle improvement to the area without any of the downtime or potential complications. On the other hand, jaw reduction surgery can cause sensation issues, dental alignment issues, and potential for pain along the TMJ area. Jawline slimming injection is actually one of the treatments for TMJ discomfort.

Can you experience any pain initially when eating? Do you need to restrict your diet immediately after the treatment?

There is no pain with eating. However we recommend the restriction of gum chewing, chewy candies, tougher meat products, jerky meat products and cuttle fish as they can promote masseter fullness.

Initial phase consists of 2-3 treatments, how long does that last?

We recommend the following treatment regime:

  1. Second treatment 4 months after the first treatment
  2. Third treatment 5 months after the second treatment
  3. Forth treatment 6 months after your third treatment

After the above treatment regime, most of our patients maintain the results with 6-monthly repeat treatment.

How often does it need to be re-done?

We recommend the following treatment regime:

  1. Second treatment 4 months after the first treatment
  2. Third treatment 5 months after the second treatment
  3. Forth treatment 6 months after your third treatment

After the above treatment regime, most of our patients maintain the results with 6-monthly repeat treatment.

If I stop practicing some negative personal habits like chewing tougher meats or chewing gum, do I still need this treatment?

Yes, since the masseter muscle will not shrink (atrophy) on its own. This treatment will change the physical mass of the muscle and make it less prominent.

Is there anyone who could not have this treatment due to medical issues or existing dental complications?

Any patient who has a neuromuscular disorder such as Myasthensia Gravis or Eaton Lambert Syndrome should not have this treatment. In addition, patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and those with active dental and skin infections should avoid having this treatment too.

The procedure

Both your consultation and treatment will be carried out personally by Dr Bong. Most practitioners use only 3 injections per side. Dr Bong’s extensive experience in this procedure enables him to offer the advanced version of this treatment which involves 6 injections perside.

Jawline slimming with Botox® is a gradual procedure, and results are often only visible after 3 weeks.

Is the procedure painful?

The procedure consists of 6 small Botox® injections in the masseter muscles. Dr Bong is well known for performing virtually pain-free Botox® injections, thanks to his unique skills and expertise, as well as the ultra-fine needles we use. These needles are so delicate, treatment is less painful than plucking your eyebrows! Anaesthesia is not necessary and not useful.

Will I be able to speak and chew normally after this treatment?

Yes. You will not have any problems with that. This treatment leaves the masseter muscles – which are often overactive in these types of patients – partially relaxed, causing them to become less active. This, in turn, brings their size down. A Botox® masseter procedure will not affect your ability to eat or talk.

How long until I see the effects of jawline slimming Botox treatment?

This treatment is a gradual process. After 3 weeks you should be able to make out a difference. After 4 months, the Botox® will have worn off, and your masseter muscles will be able to increase in size and activity again. If you repeat the treatment, however, you can halt this and actually slim down the jawline even further.

Is this procedure safe?

The jawline slimming Botox® treatment is an extremely safe procedure because Botox® is covered by the Medicines Act. This means that years have been spent researching its effectiveness, side effects and possible complications. Only when the results are favourable that this medication is allowed onto the market. The dosage of Botox® used in a jawline slimming procedure is very low, such that it cannot be harmful or toxic.

No negative long-term effects of Botox® have ever been reported.

I was treated by another practitioner, but I don’t see any results. Is there a reason for this?

Jawline slimming injection is customised for every patient. There are a few reasons as to why the injections might not have created an improvement.

• There are many brands of Botulinum Toxin Type-A available. Be weary and avoid any other versions, which may be counterfeit, water-down versions, or “Chinese Botox” which can yield unreliable and potentially dangerous results.

Poor technique – It is crucial that a skilled and experienced doctor carries out this procedure for you.

Too few units – Each patient has a unique dosage, and treatments should be customised for his or her anatomy.

Follow-up treatments – jawline slimming injection requires a series of treatments, so that each treatment can build of the last and have the most impact.

Poor habits– Those who do not discontinue chewing gum, consuming chewy foods and so on will have less dramatic results.

How many units of Botox are used for jawline slimming?

This is no set number of units or dosage used in this treatment, with a great variation based on the size of the muscle and dietary factor. Everyone is different and that is why you are required to have a face-to-face consultation prior to having this treatment. In the consultation Dr Bong will examine your face and specifically the masseter muscles.

Dr Bong will then offer you a treatment plan and quote you a price. He will also discuss in detail the advantages and limitations of this treatment and the alternatives.

Does jawline slimming with Botox also help tighten my jawline?

Slimming the jawline and tightening it is not quite the same thing, and these two procedures differ too.

Slimming the jawline concerns injection of Botox® into the masseter muscles to relax them, causing their overall size to decrease.

Tightening the jawline, on the other hand, has more to do with counteracting volume loss and skin laxity, which allows the skin to be pulled down by gravity and hang around the jaw. To restore this, we have to recoup the volume and tighten the skin. This can be achieved by way of a filler treatment.

Information on the use of soft tissue filler to sculpt, tighten and define the jawline can be found here.

Is it every possible to reverse the results of jaw reduction injection?

Yes and no.

As time goes on, the treated patient will be trained to not flex or use the masseter muscle with as much force. If a patient desires more bulk in the masseter area, they could chew gum, eat chewy foods, such as cuttlefish or tough meats, or flex the muscle more often.

Will I have the treatment in the same visit as my consultation?

You are required to have a face-to-face consultation prior to having this treatment. In the consultation Dr Bong will examine your face and specifically the masseter muscle.

Dr Bong will then offer you a treatment plan and quote you a price. He will also discuss in detail the advantages and limitations of this treatment and the alternatives.

After the consultation – and providing you decide to have the treatment – you will have the option of having the procedure in the same visit.

Appointment reminders

Please note that, although we normally send text message reminders two days before appointments are due, the successful delivery of these relies on our text provider, your mobile network provider and your phone and cannot therefore be guaranteed.

Therefore, you should not rely on our text messages as the sole reminder of your appointment as we will not be responsible for any appointments missed as a result of non-delivery of the text message reminder, regardless of the reasons for its failure.

There are many ‘cheap Botox deals’ out there. Should I consider them?

The continuing rise in the demand for non-surgical cosmetic procedures has led to an increase in the number of people administering Botox® and fillers and other types of treatments at incredibly low prices. Whilst this might sound like good news for you, unfortunately, it is far from it.

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are costly for very good reasons. The expense involved in using quality products, providing excellent service and meeting the necessary safety requirements is significant, so in order to meet these costs, quality medical professional have to set their prices accordingly.

In order to offer ‘cheap Botox’ shoddy practitioners are unlikely to invest in any of the above, as when offering cheap treatments, the cost of provision has to be minimal in order to make a profit.

Thank you for the work you have done – I am so pleased with the results. You have a very fine hand

Vicky F, Dundee
