Using multiple needles to penetrate the skin’s surface layers vertically, treatment with Dermapen produces thousands of micro-medical needle columns in the skin. Each column will penetrate the dermis of the skin. The columns close rapidly, enabling the skin to recover quickly – often on the same day. In addition, the initiation of the wound-healing process breaks up older collagen chains to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin within the skin.

It is 100% pain-free. This procedure uses a high-potency topical anaesthetic cream to ensure a 100% pain-free treatment experience.

The great thing about Dermapen skin needling is it is non-invasive. Not only that, but skin needling has fewer side effects than other non-invasive treatments.

Immediately after treatment, you will look like you have moderate sunburn, and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1 to 2 hours and will usually recover within the same day with only slight redness for 2-3 days. There may be mild flaking and skin tightness from day 2 to day 6. You may also notice areas of mild needle marks, but these will disappear in 24 to 48 hours.

First 10 minutes – Typically, the skin is first thoroughly cleansed. A high-potency topical anaesthetic cream is then applied. We use ordinary cling film with little holes cut out for the eyes and the mouth, and this is applied over your face to seal the anaesthetic cream for a more effective anaesthetic effect.

Following 40 minutes – You will wait in one of our treatment rooms for the anaesthetic cream to take effect.

Last 30 minutes – The procedure begins and should complete within 30 minutes.

Yes, Dermapen skin needling is safe for all skin types.

Patients should stop regenerative skin care products with Retinol or Alpha-Hydroxy acids five days before and after the treatment. While the risk of pigmentation is lower with skin needling than with laser treatments, sun exposure and tanning should still be avoided for two weeks after the treatment. We ask our patients to avoid make-up and skin care products for 24 hours after the procedure. Keep the treated area clean and dry.

Each person’s skin conditions are different and require different levels of treatment. For example, mild wrinkles and fine lines may see improvement after just one treatment, while more advanced skin conditions like acne scarring may need more than one session. The number of treatment sessions required will be determined during a consultation with Dr Bong.

Skin needling is based on the skin’s ability to heal after an injury. After the skin encounters any physical damage, it immediately eliminates the damaged tissue to replace it with new, healthy skin. Dermapen induces small, controlled areas of damage to trigger the production of new collagen without the risks of scarring, resulting in smoother and firmer skin.

Each patient’s healing time varies, though most start to see results about one week after treatment. Even a light treatment can enhance the appearance of skin texture and brighten your complexion.

After three treatments, the collagen stimulation takes a significant effect, and patients recognise the impact that skin needling can have on their skin’s appearance.

For acne scars, it may take up to 3 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen. The process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long-lasting improvement.

As a guide, each session costs on average £280. We recommend a treatment every six months for wrinkle reduction, skin tightening, and anti-ageing on the face. For acne scars, there may be more treatments required; however, Dr Bong will advise after your consultation. A course of 3 treatments is £750.

We accept cash or the following major credit and debit cards. We do not accept personal cheques.

We respect that your time is valuable, and we appreciate that you understand ours is too. Unfortunately, if appointments are cancelled or rescheduled at short notice, or if you do not attend an appointment, we cannot allocate your appointment slot to someone else; however, we still have overheads and staff salaries to pay. Please note for all patients, a £50 fee will be charged if you cancel or reschedule ANY appointment (including appointments which do not require an upfront deposit, such as a ‘check-up’ or review appointment) less than 48 hours before the appointment time. Patients who have pre-purchased a course of treatment will forfeit one of the treatments instead of paying this fee.

Late arrival to your appointment may result in reduced treatment time or the forfeiting of the appointment. We will endeavour to ensure that your appointment runs on time. However, for reasons beyond our control, we may need to cancel or postpone your appointment at short notice. In this unlikely event, we will try to contact you in advance. We do not offer compensation if we cancel or postpone your appointment.

To help our patients minimise the chance of losing their deposit or pre-paid treatments, we issue text reminders a minimum of 48 hours ahead of appointments. Patients should be aware that there may be reasons beyond our control, meaning that the text message does not reach them. Patients should diarise themselves when making follow-up appointments and not rely solely on the text message from the clinic as a reminder.
