DERMAPEN 4

Advanced Automated Skin Needling

Essence Medical Cosmetic Clinic is proud to announce that we are the first clinic in Scotland to offer treatments using the latest and most advanced version of DermaPen – Dermapen 4.

Restore your skin to its optimal health with the help of Dermapen 4. The new Dermapen 4 promises to deliver fast and effective results safely. This revolutionary skin pen is the best device for collagen induction therapy- a skin rejuvenation procedure that treats a myriad of skin conditions through natural and safe collagen production.

Dermapen 4 promises the power to treat more skin issues, including:

  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun-damaged skin

Why DermaPen 4?

Precision: The precision of the Dermapen 4 minimises the effect of the treatment on the tissues surrounding the treatment area much more than manual roller or other skin needling pens. Round areas, like those around the nose and upper lip, are harder to treat with a  manual roller, whereas the Dermapen’s narrower handpiece can easily treat these areas.

Adjustable speed & length: DermaPen 4’s sterile, disposable needle tips are adjustable to cater to different areas of the face that require different penetration levels for the best results.

No down time: Traditionally skin needling has been performed with a manual roller. While effective in its old form, the needles would penetrate the skin at an angle causing more side effects and therefore greater recovery time.

Less skin damage: The DermaPen 4 penetrates the skin from up to 100 times per second with an adjustable speed, and at a depth between 0.25mm- 2.5mm, depending on the area being treated. The needles in the DermaPen 4 penetrate the skin vertically, minimising skin damage, pain and recovery time.

Safe for all skin types

Fast, visible results for acne scarring and fine lines

An effective alternative to laser resurfacing

The most common technique uses a manual roller with needles spread across the cylindrical device. This type of device is rolled across the treatment area. The nature of the rolling movement creates unnecessary epidermal damage as the needles pull the tissue as they leave the skin and creates trenches.

Dermapen’s unique pinhead is completely vertical, minimizing unnecessary injury to the treatment area. The carefully controlled, disposable pinhead only moves in and up-and-down motion, meaning less recovery time and a more comfortable experience for patients.

The size and design of Dermapen also allows it to be used in tight or round areas where a manual roller could not fit like the crease of the nose, along the upper lip, and across the chin. Dermapen works well on any skin tone and type meaning it can be a safe alternative to lasers for those with darker skin tones.

How does Dermapen work?

Using multiple needles to vertically penetrate the surface layers of skin, treatment with Dermapen produces thousands of micro-medical needle-columns in the skin. Each column will penetrate into the dermis of the skin. The columns close rapidly, enabling the skin to recover quickly – often in the same day. The initiation of wound-healing process breaks up older collagen chains to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin within the skin.

Dermapen aims at improving the appearance, texture and overall quality of your skin.

After years of research and development by its makers, Dermapen 4 promises high precision, speed, accuracy, and safety. In addition, Dermapen 4’s 16-needle cartridge combined with Direct Digital Drive capabilities promise to minimise pores, improve skin elasticity, and reveal youthful-looking skin within a short period of time. All of this with no side effects and very little if any downtime.

What does a Dermapen treatment feel like?

100% pain free.

We use only high-potency topical anaesthetic cream for this procedure to ensure 100% pain free treatment experience.

What are the side effects?

The great thing about Dermapen skin needling is it is non-invasive. Not only that, but skin needling has less side effects than other non-invasive treatments.

Immediately after treatment you will look as though you have moderate sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day with only slight redness for 2-3 days. There may be mild flaking and skin tightness on day 2 to day 6.  You may also notice areas of mild needle marks, but these will disappear in 24 to 48 hours.

How long does the treatment take?

First 10 minutes – Typically, the skin is first thoroughly cleansed. A high-potency topical anaesthetic cream is then applied. We use ordinary cling film with little holes cut out for the eyes and the mouth, and this is applied over your face to seal the anaesthetic cream for a more effective anaesthetic effect.

Following 40 minutes – You will wait in one of our treatment rooms for the anaesthetic cream to take effect.

Last 30 minutes – The procedure begins and should complete within 30 minutes.

Can microneedling be used safely for skin of color?

Yes, Dermapen skin needling is safe for all skin types.

What things should I avoid before or after my Dermapen skin needling treatments?

Patients should stop any regenerative skin care products with Retinol or Alpha-Hydroxyacids 5 days before and after the treatment.  While the risk of pigmentation is lower with skin needling than laser treatments, sun exposure and tanning should still be avoided for 2 weeks after the treatment.  For 24 hours after the procedure, we ask our patients to avoid make up and skin care products.  Keep the treated area clean and dry.

How many Dermapen treatments will I need?

Each person’s skin conditions are different and require different levels of treatment. Those with mild wrinkles and fine lines may see improvement after just one treatment while more advanced skin conditions like acne scarring may need more than one session. The number of treatment sessions required will be determined during a consultation with Dr Bong.

Below is just a guide on the number of session you may wish to consider for two different indications:

How does Dermapen treat wrinkles and scars?

Skin needling is based on the skin’s ability to heal itself after an injury. Right after the skin encounters any physical damage, it immediately eliminates the damaged tissue to replace it with new, healthy skin. Dermapen induces small, controlled areas of damage to trigger the production of new collagen without the risks of scarring resulting in smoother and firmer skin.

How long until I see results from Dermapen?

Each patient’s healing time varies, though most start to see results from about one week after treatment. Even a light treatment can enhance the appearance of skin texture and brighten your complexion.

After 3 treatments, the collagen stimulation takes a major effect, and patients recognize the impact that skin needling can have on their skin’s appearance.

For acne scars, it may take up to 3 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting improvement.

What is your booking and cancellation policy?

When we book an appointment for you, we commit that time and our resources to your treatment. This means that, if anyone else wants to come at the same time, we will be unable to see them and will have to offer them an alternative time. If you do not then attend that appointment and either do not tell us in advance or give insufficient notice, we are unable to allocate the time to someone else; however, we still have overheads and staff salaries to pay during the unproductive time.

Deposits and your credit/debit card details

Unlike other clinics, we do not take any advance deposit or booking fee. The only exception is our Ultrasound Facial treatment where a nominal non-refundable deposit of £50 is required because an external skin therapist is being brought in specially to carry out the procedure for you. This deposit will be redeemed against your Ultrasound Facial treatment.

When booking your appointment, you will be asked to provide us your credit/debit card details. This is your confirmation of your commitment to attend your appointment. Please rest assured that no money will be taken from your card and your details will be securely stored but encrypted for your own privacy. We assure you that your details are fully protected and safe with us.

To cancel or reschedule your appointment

We make appointments with the expectation that you will attend at the agreed date & time to undergo your treatment; if you change your mind or work/other commitments prevent you from attending, we ask you to give us a minimum of 48 hours’ notice (excluding Sunday) so that we can reallocate your appointment slot to another customer.

Non-attendance (including late cancellation)

If you do not attend your appointment, or cancel later than the deadlines shown above, we reserve the right to make a charge as follows:

1. Ultrasound Facial: you will forfeit the £50 deposit

2. All other appointments (including consultation): £50 will be charged to your credit/debit card

Appointment reminders

Please note that, although we normally send text message reminders two days before appointments are due, the successful delivery of these relies on our text provider, your mobile network provider and your phone and cannot therefore be guaranteed.

Therefore, you should not rely on our text messages as the sole reminder of your appointment as we will not be responsible for any appointments missed as a result of non-delivery of the text message reminder, regardless of the reasons for its failure.

I would like more information. Shall I just call your reception and make an appointment?

Yes, absolutely. You will need a consultation with Dr Bong and this is completely free of charge. During the consultation, Dr Bong will discuss in further detail with you what the procedure will entail.

After the consultation – and providing you decide to have the treatment – you will be offered another appointment. Please call us on 0141-8949098 to schedule an appointment for a consultation.
