BOTOX ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections

Overview

Wrinkle relaxing injections (commonly known as ‘BOTOX® treatment’ Glasgow Edinburgh) is a great solution for men and women who are unhappy with the look of their lines and wrinkles. This treatment works best on expression lines, which are typically the first lines to show up on the skin. These lines forms in the areas where you make facial expressions, such as the eyes, across the forehead and around the mouth. Expression lines are present when you are making an expression but fade away when your face is at rest.

Anti-wrinkle injections temporarily relaxes the small muscles and when these tiny muscles cannot move, they can no longer crinkle up the skin on top of them. Thus, your skin will once again appear youthful and smooth.

We are proud to offer what we called pain-free BOTOX®. One of the biggest concerns that we hear about from our patients is their fear of discomfort with the injections. If the thought of discomfort is bothering you, you can rest easy with our help.

Dr Bong is well known for performing virtually pain-free wrinkle relaxing injections in Glasgow, thanks to his unique skills and expertise, as well as the ultra-fine needles imported from South Korea. These needles are so delicate, treatment is less painful than plucking your eyebrows!

Our affordable wrinkle relaxing treatment includes a follow-up review after two weeks to make sure you are delighted with the results.

Dr Bong is an international trainer, who mentors other doctors and nurses for many of the procedures offered at Essence Medical. He is widely recognised as an international expert, having been invited to speak at international conferences in over 60 countries.

Consultation is completely free of charge and there is absolutely no obligation at all for you to take up any treatment. The consultation may or may not lead to your having the treatment, depending on the amount of time it takes to conclude your consultation.

There are many ‘cheap Botox’ deals out there, should I consider them?

The continuing rise in the demand for non-surgical cosmetic procedures has led to an increase in the number of people offering ‘Botox treatment’ and other types of treatments at incredibly low prices. Whilst this might sound like good news for you, unfortunately, it is far from it.

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are costly for very good reasons. The expense involved in using quality products, providing excellent service and meeting the necessary safety requirements is significant, so in order to meet these costs, quality practitioners have to set their prices accordingly.

In order to offer ‘cheap Botox’, shoddy practitioners are unlikely to invest in any of the above, as when offering cheap treatments, the cost of provision has to be minimal in order to make a profit.

The Product May Be Imported

Cheap (and fake) ‘Botox’ are freely available online, often from China where there are no manufacturing standards. Purchasing cosmetic products from outside the UK may be illegal. The only way for an injector to know that a product is authentic and approved by UK health authority (MHRA) is to order it directly from the manufacturer or an authorised distributor. These imports face less government scrutiny than those that have met the strict requirements of MHRA.

Anything being imported illegally and bypassing the authorised supply chain means we have no idea how it was handled, transported, or stored. And when improperly stored, the products can degrade and lose their efficacy.

The Injectors May Cut Corners

Practitioners who do not invest in research, training, the environment they work in, care standards and protection should things go wrong are an accident waiting to happen. There are risks involved in non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and without the necessary safeguards in place, side effects and complications are more likely to occur.

Some cut-rate injectors operate by doing work at or below cost in the hope that you will stay on later at full price. But others curb their losses by overly diluting the products, thereby minimising their effect.

Inexperienced and Lack Skills

Bargain-basement injections can signal inexperienced practitioners looking for practice. That is yet another reason so many practitioners can undersell. Those injections often are not done by cosmetic doctors but by people with less training.

The Product Could be Fake

While less pervasive than unapproved imports, imitations are also on the rise. What is in these products is anyone’s guess. Authorised tests have shown that some of these fake products do not contain any active ingredients at all while some were found to contain too high a concentration of the active ingredients, making them highly dangerous. Furthermore, these fake products may have been made in an environment which lacks the sterility, quality and safety assurance.

What are wrinkle reduction injections?

In recent years, wrinkle relaxing injections have become the most common anti-ageing treatment on the market. It is very effective in softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles without going under the knife. The results will start to show after only a few days. One treatment of wrinkle relaxing injection will relax facial expression lines, leaving you looking more youthful and rejuvenated.

Botulinum toxin type-A is made from purified type A neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It is administered in a quick, simple, non-surgical procedure that temporarily relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles, resulting in a smooth, rejuvenated appearance.

There are currently three different brands of botulinum toxin licensed for cosmetic use in Europe, namely Botox®, Azzalure and Bocouture. It is not a simple case of one particular brand being better than the other; they are simply different medications, manufactured very differently, and have different clinical effects. Over the years Botox® has been so dominant that the use of botulinum toxin type-A has become known as ‘Botox® treatment’. The reality is that all the different brands are equally good. What is more important is that the injecting doctor uses a product they are most familiar with.

What is ‘Botox® treatment’?

‘Botox® treatment’ is synonymous to wrinkle relaxing injections. It is a quick and simple procedure that temporarily relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles, resulting in a smooth, rejuvenated appearance.

Over the years, wrinkle relaxing injections have become commonly known as ‘Botox® treatment’.

How do wrinkle reduction injections work and what is the procedure?

Wrinkle reduction injections can be carried out to minimise the appearance of frown lines between the eyes, forehead lines, crow’s feet, nasal lines, smile lines, smokers’ lip lines and neck lines. It involves tiny injections of botulinum toxin to precise wrinkle-causing muscles. The treatment is simple and quick (usually about 10-15mins) with no downtime, and many patients often have it done on their lunch breaks. Discomfort is very minimal and brief; most patients compare the sensation to an insect bite. No sedation or local anaesthetic is required, and you will be able to drive and engage in all of your usual daily activities (even put on your makeup) immediately after your treatment.

Are wrinkle reduction injections safe?

In the hands of Dr Kieren Bong, this procedure is usually very safe and causes little or no side effects.

The most common side effect is occasional bruising in the treated areas, which is temporary and can be easily covered with cosmetic concealers. In cosmetic use, this treatment has been widely tested and used safely for more than 15 years, and has quickly become the most popular non-surgical, aesthetic procedures in the world.

How long does the treatment last?

Visible effects can take place within 3-5 days, and full effect is seen in 7-10 days. The effects of this treatment usually last for 4-6 months, depending on individual. When the lines start to reappear, simply repeat the same treatment to maintain the desired outcome.

I have tightness in my forehead after Botox® treatment - is this normal?

Yes, you may experience tightness on your forehead around four or five days after having treatment. It can last for five or six days.

What can I do to reduce swelling, bruising and bleeding after having Botox® treatment?

There are certain medications, supplements and vitamins you should stop taking before having Botox® treatment, as they can cause any swelling and bruising to worsen. These include:

  • Ibuprofen or Aspirin
  • Blood thinning medication
  • St John’s wort
  • Gingko Biloba
  • Vitamin E

Why do I have sensation of heaviness in my upper eyelids after Botox®?

If the injections have been placed too low in the forehead, it can cause the muscle to overly relax and ‘push down’ on your eyebrows. This subsequently gives you a sensation of heaviness in your eyebrows and upper eyelids. However, this effect is not permanent and will wear off in 3-6 weeks.

Choosing an experienced cosmetic doctor will help minimise the risk of any adverse reactions such as the above.

I’ve had Botox® without realising I was pregnant. What should I do?

It is not advisable to have Botox® injections when pregnant because there have been no large-scale, long-term studies to assess the effect Botox® has on a developing baby.

However, as the amount of Botox® administered is small, localised and will not easily move to other areas of the body once injected, the risk of it harming your baby is extremely small.

Can you reverse the effects of Botox®?

No, it is not possible to reverse the effects of Botox®. So, if you are unhappy with the results, you’ll need to wait around 10–12 weeks for the effects to wear off.

Choosing a highly experienced expert cosmetic doctor will ensure you are happy with your results. However, if you are not satisfied for any reason, speak to us, as we may be able to do some corrective work.

Should I apply ice after having Botox® treatment?

We recommend not applying any pressure to the area as this can move the Botox® – this includes pressing ice onto the area. Instead we suggest you take arnica tablets to help reduce the risk of bruising and also to help any bruising to settle.

What painkillers can I take before or after having Botox® treatment?

You can take paracetamol before and after the procedure but avoid anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen.

You should avoid taking ibuprofen before having Botox® as the medicine is an anticoagulant. This means it can prevent blood from clotting properly, which can increase the risk of bruising.

How long after having Botox® can I lie down? Can I sleep on my side?

Yes, provided you wait at least six hours before lying down. Botox® takes a few hours to settle into place, so lying down straight-away could cause it to migrate to other muscles in your face and increase the risk of complications. You can sleep in any position after having Botox®.

Should I avoid heat or going on a sunbed after Botox® treatment?

Yes, as heat can increase the chance of you suffering bruising where you were at the injection site. You should avoid hot showers, baths and hot tubs for 24 hours after having Botox®.

You should wait at least four hours before you use a sunbed. This is because lying down for extended periods immediately after the procedure could cause the Botox® to move to other muscles in the face, away from the muscles that were injected.

Although exposure to UV light will not affect the results of your Botox® treatment, it is the number one cause of wrinkles. So, if you want your skin to look younger for as long as possible, avoid using sunbeds and use a strong sunscreen if you are out in the sun.

How soon can I exercise after Botox® treatment?

It is best to avoid strenuous aerobic exercise for six hours after having Botox®. Strenuous exercise can result in bruising and, in rarer cases, cause the Botox® to move to other areas of your face and temporarily paralyse the muscles there.

For the same reason, you should avoid doing yoga for six hours—the inverted positions can cause Botox® move to other muscles in the face.

What happens if I bend over after having Botox® treatment?

It is possible that the Botox® may shift from where it was injected to other areas of your face. However, the risk is very small, so unless you are bending forward repeatedly or for substantial periods of time (for example, if performing yoga moves) straight after having Botox®, you should be fine.

Should I do facial exercises after having Botox®?

Certain clinical studies have shown that doing facial exercises after having Botox® can speed up the effects of having the treatment.

Can I touch my face after having Botox®?

Yes, you can continue your regular skin care routine, including touching your face to cleanse and moisturise it. However, it is best to wait at least six hours before massaging or rubbing the skin.

Can I get my eyebrows waxed after Botox®?

Yes, as long as you wait two weeks first. Having Botox® can influence the shape of your eyebrows, so allow two weeks for the treated part of your face to fully heal and show the full results.

Waiting two weeks before having waxing, or any form of hair removal treatment is recommended.

What happens when the results of Botox® wear off?

After around 3-4 months, you will start to notice the areas you had treated with Botox® gradually returning to how they looked before having treatment.

You should not be able to feel Botox® wearing off but you will gradually notice its effects subsiding and wrinkles starting to reappear.

When Botox® wears off, are wrinkles worse?

No. If you feel your wrinkles look more pronounced after Botox® treatment has worn off, it is most likely be because you have become used to your face looking smoother.
